I started a new job this week. All along I’ve felt like this position was from God. I’ve been very particular about the jobs I’ve been applying for, but this one checked all the boxes and more. From the tasks required (all things I love), to the hours (shortened for this position), to the organization (that already held a place in my heart), and it’s faith-based (truly a bonus).
But then I found out that this organization holds a weekly prayer meeting. While I’ve been praying on my end, they’ve also been praying for the perfect fit for this role. This job is definitely God directed!
Even when we can’t see Him, God is actively working on our behalf. Sometimes quietly in the background, and sometimes with a mighty force. But He is always working.
As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:10-14.
When the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, God worked powerfully on their behalf. “Do not be afraid,” Moses told them. “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Even with the Egyptian army in pursuit, don’t be afraid. The Lord will fight for you. Be still. Relax. This is all God directed.
In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling. Exodus 15:13 (NIV).
The Lord is our guide. The Lord is our North Star. Just as the Lord guided the Israelites through the Red Sea, He will guide us.
A special thanks to my sister, who shared some verses and thoughts on the powerful workings of the Lord in our lives.
Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. Psalm 77:19.
The Lord led the Israelites through the Red Sea, but His footprints were not visible. We may not always see the Lord working behind the scenes in our lives either, but He is diligently and lovingly at work on our behalf.
You go before me and follow me. Psalm 139:5.
God goes before us and behind us. We don’t need to worry. God has our back. Wherever your journey takes you, know that you’re not alone.
As Chris Tomlin sings in God of the Angel Armies,
“I know who goes before me
I know who stands behind
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side”
Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. Psalm 68:19 (NLT).
God guided. God directed. God carried. We are surrounded by the Lord.
Praise the Lord!
“O Lord, you have examined my heart
and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, Lord.
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!”
- Psalm 139:1-6 (NLT).
